RSU Freshman Wins National Award at FFA Convention

blaine mibb rsu ffaBlaine Mibb, a Rogers State University freshman from Pryor, has won a National Agricultural Proficiency Award from the Future Farmers of America (FFA). Mibb beat out three other finalists in the Equine Science-Entrepreneurship category at last month’s National FFA Convention and Expo in Louisville, Kentucky.

Mibb has been building his horse training business since his freshman year in high school. “God has blessed me with a natural ability of working with horses at a young age. My family has been in the horse training and rodeo industry my entire life,” said Mibb. “I plan on expanding my business during and well after my college career.”

The FFA noted Mibb’s strong work ethic when presenting him with the award. In a statement, the organization said Mibb, after implementing new training techniques to increase horse performance, was able to increase his average sale per horse by $575. New marketing techniques also increased his client base by 13 percent.

Mibb is believed to be just the fourth Adair High School student and 10th from Mayes County to win the National Agricultural Proficiency Award. He was also awarded the American FFA Degree at the convention.

Approximately 3,500 American FFA Degrees are handed out each year at the National FFA Convention & Expo. That number represents less than half of one percent of all FFA members, making it one of the organization’s highest honors.

The National FFA Organization is a national youth organization of 557,318 student members as part of 7,498 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
