GRDA Helps Light the Way at Will Rogers Memorial Museum

A new lighting system has been completed at Will Rogers Memorial Museum, thanks to sponsorship by Grand River Dam Authority.

The project not only provides more adequate lighting in the Museum’s galleries, but meets guidelines for protection and preservation of exhibits and valuable artworks. Energy-saving improvements will also mean a power cost savings.

“We are incredibibly grateful to GRDA for this sponsorship. It has made a huge difference, not only in the quality of lighting for the exhibits, but in energy efficiency,” said Tad Jones, executive director of the Will Rogers Memorial Museums.

While all areas have had improvements, most noticeable is in the Children’s Museum, Library, Hallway to the Library, The Final Journey Gallery and Vista Room.

Dan Sullivan, GRDA CEO and director of investment, and Laura Townsend, GRDA marketing programs, visited the Museum to see the completed project.

“We are very happy to support the Will Rogers Memorial Museum. The new lighting provides visitors with greater visibility to learn more about Oklahoma’s favorite son,” Sullivan said.

There has been a gradual move to replace Museum lighting with newer energy-efficient fixtures, but the help from GRDA has allowed the process to be completed in a timely manner, especially to protect the precious items on display. Many of the items are gifts from the Rogers family when the Museum opened more than 75 years ago.

Sponsorship from GRDA, the power supplier for the city of Claremore, helps with the Will Rogers Memorial Museum mission to “collect, preserve and share the wisdom, and humor of Will Rogers for all generations.”
