The Oklahoma Association of Student Councils, District 6 (Bartlesville, Verdigris, Oologah, Claremore, Owasso, Chelsea, and surrounding schools) recently held its annual convention at Oologah High School. The convention takes the form of leadership workshops, including a motivational speaker and peer-to-peer workshops.

Participants Ethan Clark and Cole Brooks asked each student to bring a book or two to the conference, and were shocked at the donation of more than 300 children’s books. The boys delivered all of the books to the Rogers County Literacy Council. RCLC director Edel Godwin said, “I had no idea how big their gift would be. These teenagers are great; they did all the work organizing the book drive and even delivered the donations. We are delighted that we will have these to hand out to children at the Claremont Elementary Polar Express Literacy Night on December 3. It is a lovely community connection, adult literacy outreach to parents in our community. Teens are learning about leadership and philanthropy, young children being the recipients of generosity. You have to love it!.”

Ethan Clark and Cole Brooks (pictured) were happy to help. “It’s amazing how this small effort of many [kids attending the convention each brought a small number of books] resulted in such a big gift!” said Ethan Clark, Oologah High School.
