Steve Gragert, former Will Rogers Memorial executive director, and his wife, Helen, stand at the site where Will Rogers and Wiley Post died in a plane crash, 80 years to the day after their deaths.

Will Rogers Memorial Museum Lecture Series 2016 Opens with Former Director

Steve Gragert, former Will Rogers Memorial executive director, will open the 2016 Milam Lecture Series telling about his August 15, 2015, visit to the site of the plane crash 80 years earlier that claimed the life of Will Rogers and Wiley Post.

He is also expected to share his most recent research on Will Rogers, the humanitarian.

The lecture will be 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, in the Will Rogers Memorial Museum Theatre. There will be time for questions. Admission is free and open to the public.

Gragert, who started his involvement with Will Rogers in 1967 while working on the Will Rogers Research project at Oklahoma State University, was named Museum director in 2006, serving until the fall of 2014. He edited or co-edited 17 of the 22 volumes in the scholarly series The Writings of Will Rogers, published by Oklahoma State University and two volumes of The Papers of Will Rogers.
