NTC Earns Industry-Recognized FANUC Certification

CNC Machining Instructor Shawn Christian’s CNC Machining program at NTC’s Claremore Campus has earned FANUC Certification.

Northeast Technology Center’s Claremore Campus is now a FANUC Certified Education CNC training facility offering students industry-recognized credentials towards their manufacturing technology programs. Upon program completion, NTC CNC Machining students will be qualified to work in manufacturing with FANUC CNC equipment.

CNC Machining Instructor Shawn Christian is excited about the new opportunities this certification will offer his students.

“FANUC controllers have been in our industry since the beginning of the CNC generation,” said Christian. “There is no brand more recognized in our industry. They are the standard to which everyone else compares their product. My hope is that hiring preference comes with this recognition.”

NTC is certified to provide FANUC’s CNC programming, setup and operation training for milling and turning machines. Initially, students are taught CNC programming using FANUC’s NCGuide simulation software on a computer or FANUC’s CNC education simulators for an extensive hands-on experience. Next, students are exposed to machines incorporating FANUC CNC controls to experience the complete programming, setup and operational workflow. Throughout the process, students follow approved curriculum for milling and turning to ensure consistency and instructors attend FANUC courses for control training to ensure quality and knowledge of the control.

“This certification was important to us because the curriculum was written by the people who build the machines,” said Christian. “In eight years of teaching, I have looked at and used many different pieces of curriculum and textbooks. But this is the first I have seen that I believe to be written by a machinist instead of a curriculum writer.”

As a result of being FANUC certified, NTC can offer a CNC program that answers the demand from the manufacturing industry for skilled FANUC CNC operators and programmers. The new curriculum will be incorporated into the existing program to allow students an opportunity to learn nearly every aspect of CNC Machining they may see in a real-work environment.

“Graduates will be able to read and interpret blueprints, develop the required process for the blueprint, determine machine coordinate values, develop CNC code, test the NC programs, QC the part and implement the part into production,” said Christian.

FANUC America’s Certified Education CNC Training program addresses the industry need for skilled workers. Schools that offer a FANUC Certified Education CNC program provide qualified students the best possible training for high-tech careers as operators and programmers. Beginning this fall semester, students attending the CNC Machining program will be eligible for the new credentials.
