Happy Summer from the Will Rogers Library! Here are a few summer reads for young readers. My Garden by Kevin Henkes is a beautifully illustrated picture book about a little girl’s imaginary garden. She likes to help her mother in their actual garden but in her imagination she has a garden with no weeds and flowers that bloom and never die. Her imagination runs wild as she plants jelly bean plants and seashell bushes. This is a lovely book to share with young readers as we tend to our own gardens-real or imaginary! My Garden can be found in the Early Reader section of the Will Rogers Library.
For older readers, The Black Stallion by Walter Farley is a favorite. Young Alec Ramsay first spies the magnificent stallion when his ship docks in an Arabian port. Never has Alec seen such a beautiful, gigantic and wild animal. Little did he dream that this mighty black horse was destined to play an important part in his young life. This classic story of understanding between human and animal is sure to please readers of all ages. The Black Stallion can be found in the Juvenile section of the Will Rogers Library.
Another summer favorite is Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. The story within a story of Sal and Phoebe is one that is engaging to middle-years readers. As both Sal and Phoebe deal with the loss of their mothers, they weave a moving story of loss, love and the complexity of human emotion. Walk Two Moons can be found in the Juvenile section of the Will Rogers Library.
