It’s easy to lose track of friends after high school. As a member of the Claremore High School Class of 1997, this was a big year…our 20th high school reunion. A few months before the big weekend, there were murmurs from classmates about planning something special. A couple of folks volunteered, but the one who spearheaded the event was Jesse Sixkiller (and his wife Andrea, Class of 98, handled a lot of details, too. And I need to give a shout out to Bucky Hopwood and Jennifer Jensen-Compton here, as well.).
At the reunion, it was nice to see old faces and make some small talk. However, what didn’t ever come up in my conversation with Jesse was his profession. I had no idea.
Jesse Sixkiller has just been named the postmaster for Claremore Post Office.
It seems that after we bid adieu to CHS in 1997, he began studying business up on the hill before taking a job with the USPS as a postal carrier in Tulsa. For nine years, through rain or snow, Jesse worked first in northeast Tulsa, then southeast. He steadily worked his way up before working in the Tulsa Northeast division, working as a supervisor, manager, and various other positions. While it was difficult wearing so many hats, he loved the work.
During his years as a mail carrier, Jesse said his favorite part was getting to know his customers.
Jesse is thrilled to be on his home turf in Claremore. His father, Steve Sixkiller, was also a letter carrier in Claremore, and his mother, Teri Stonebarger, still lives here, too. He’s enjoying meeting plenty of new customers who know his parents, too. It’s one of the many fun benefits of small-town living!
After 19 years of working with the USPS, Jesse knows firsthand that nothing makes people smile like getting a card or a handwritten letter in the mail. He’s proud to carry on the family tradition of bringing joy to everyone via their mailbox.
Jesse said, “I am excited to be serving the community, through the postal service, in the community I grew up in. Some of my goals include to continue strengthening the positive relationship in the community and continue bridging any gaps between local business and the USPS.”
Jesse’s wife, Andrea, is a registered nurse at a local hospital, and they have two daughters, Sarah, and Emery.
