I Attended my First 1 Million Cups in Claremore: Ashley’s Thoughts

For the past year, I’ve been receiving emails about the 1 Million Cups initiative in Claremore. I’ve never gone before because…well, I don’t know why. Perhaps it’s because I don’t drink coffee, and I drop my kiddo off at school at the same time it starts. (P.S. Those are lousy excuses.) But today I went for the first time, mainly because my husband was the presenter.

1 Million Cups is sponsored by the Kauffman Foundation. It’s basically a place for entrepreneurs to present ideas and get feedback from like-minded folks. The name comes from the idea that brilliant ideas are born over one million cups of coffee.

Each month, on the first Wednesday, the group meets at She Brews Coffee House in downtown Claremore from 8:30a – 9:30a. The presenter is generally a local entrepreneur, someone who is a business owner, or has a product idea, and is looking to get some help.

The February presenter was Justin Orf, owner of Crow’s Nest Print & Design. Justin began the business at home in 2016, while working a full-time job. Crow’s Nest services include logo design, window signage, banners, vehicle wraps, and large-format printing. If it involves vinyl, Justin can do it! Several Claremore clients have used Crow’s Nest and have been repeat customers. Follow Crow’s Nest on facebook or visit on the web to learn more!

The presenter is tasked with telling the group about challenges faced as a small business owner, and the group is quick to sympathize, because many of them have been in the same shoes. The group was friendly and incredibly helpful.

If you’re looking to meet other business owners and entrepreneurs, or you just like coffee, check out 1 Million Cups. Everyone is welcome! The March 7 meeting will actually be held at Northeast Tech in Claremore, but will return to She Brews for April.
