RSU-Claremore Signs First Basketball Player for New Season

RSU Men’s Basketball Signs Destin Eke for 2018-19 Season
Rogers State head men’s basketball coach Justin Barkley announced the signing of Destin Eke as the first member of the 2018 men’s basketball signing class. Eke will be a freshman on the RSU basketball team in the 2018-19 season.
“I’m really excited to add a guy with as much upside as Destin,” Barkley said. “Destin was our first signee of this class. Coach Cooper Land did a great job identifying him in the Dallas area last summer and he brings size, toughness and a competitive spirit to our team. I can’t wait to get started working with Destin. He has a bright future here at Rogers State University.”
Eke joins the navy and red from Irving Nimitz High School in Irving, Texas. He was a two-time First Team All-District 7-6A selection in his junior and senior seasons while being named the District 7-6A Defensive Most Valuable Player as a senior. The 6-7 forward posted 1,215 career points in his prep career. In his senior season, he was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the Cedar Hill Tournament. As a junior, Eke posted an average of 16.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
Eke is Barkley’s first-ever prep signing from the state of Texas and he is the first member of the 2018 RSU men’s basketball signing class.
The Hillcat men’s basketball team went 18-11 in the 2017-18 season, including an 11-3 record at the Claremore Expo Center. RSU advanced to postseason play for the second time in its two years as full members of NCAA Division II with an appearance in the Heartland Conference Tournament.
