Claremore Student Selected for 2018 Academic All-State

One student from Claremore High School was given the honors of being selected for 2018 Academic All-State. Out of the 536 nominations, Claremore senior Natalie Evans was selected within the top 100 to receive this prestigious award. This is the 42nd recipient since 1967 in Claremore history.  To be considered for this prestigious honor, a student must possess one of the five criterias: composite ACT score of at least 30, combined SAT Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and Math score of at least 1340, National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist, National Achievement Scholarship Program semifinalist, National Hispanic Scholar Awards Program semifinalist. According to the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence’s website, following obtaining at least one of the criterias, “..students will be evaluated on the basis of their leadership abilities, motivation, academic achievement and character as maximized within each student’s learning environment.”

Natalie Evans will be graduating from Claremore as a valedictorian, with a 4.0 GPA. She will attend Oklahoma State University in the fall where she will major in chemical engineering. Natalie exhibits the true meaning of the Claremore High School motto, “Excellence for all, excellence from all”. This is proven through her extensive school and civic involvement. While partaking in rigorous courses, Natalie has been a leading member of the Varsity Tennis team, placing in the top 5 for individuals every high school season to date. She has also enriched her academic achievement by being an active member in a number of clubs, including but not limited to: Chemistry Club, World Language Club, Math Club, Native American Student Association, and Students Against Destructive Decisions.

Most notably, Natalie has served as the Scholarship Director for the National Honor Society for the 2017-2018 school year, where she has assisted in many organization activities, and also developing and facilitating the successful College Connection workshop series. These events hosted a number of university representatives from across the state, including: Oklahoma State University, Oral Roberts University, Rogers State University, the University of Central Oklahoma, and even the University of Arkansas. Over 100 students attended to learn about the admissions process, interview ethics, scholarship searching, and many other hot topics for students planning for a future in higher education.

She will accept her award at the Academic Awards Banquet Saturday, May 19, 2018. This prestigious award provides each recipient with $1,000 in scholarship money and a medallion. Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence Chairman David L. Boren has described the selection of Oklahoma’s Academic All-Staters as, “Oklahoma’s most rigorous academic competition.”

“Natalie is as a young woman of purpose, a woman who pursues ways to make herself and situations better, who has a passion for education and excellence that causes her to stand out in her endeavors.” said Jamie Brace, CHS NHS Advisor.
