Sign up for Summer Reading in Claremore on June 1

“Libraries Rock” is the theme for the 2018 Library Summer Reading Program and the Will Rogers Library is ready to roll! Beginning June 1st, children and teens can sign up to take part in the library’s largest event of the year.

The Library’s Summer Reading Program is actually 3 programs in one, with an early literacy program for kids 5 and under, the core reading program for kids ages 6-11 and another for teens 12-17. Sign-up begins June 1st, but kids can sign up any time throughout the summer as the entire program runs through July. To enroll, participants must have a Will Rogers Library card. If they do not currently have a card, they will need to bring a parent or legal guardian to the Library to fill out a Library Card application to sign up.

The “Libraries Rock” theme is part of the Oklahoma Department of Libraries statewide reading event. “The ODL supports Summer Reading across the state with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Science” explained Library Director Sherry Beach, “and we also have great support from local sponsors such as the Claremore Rec Center, Gripado’s, Boom-A-Rang Diner, Pizza Hut, Chick-fil-A, What-a-Burger, Chili’s and Sonic, who all donate coupon prizes for the final prize drawings.”

The Friends of the Library will help kick off the program with a special children’s book sale in the library lobby. The Friends have been collecting children’s book donations for the past several months, and will feature this special sale while they last. Proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library for future contribution to the Library collection.

“The Summer Reading Program is always the most popular library program of the year. Last year nearly 900 kids and teens participated, and we’re looking forward to an even bigger and better event this year” said Beach. “We’re ready for the kids to come in and check it out!”
