It’s that windy month of March again (aren’t they all windy in Oklahoma?)! This month we’ll showcase two books about wind from the Early Reader section of the Will Rogers Library. The Poodle Who Barked At The Wind, by Charlotte Zolotow is a cute story about a family with a little black poodle who seems to bark at everything! Busy with the family each day, the dog barks each time the phone rings, each time the doorbell rings and each time the postman arrives to the consternation of the father. One day, the mother, little boy and little girl leave the house and the father is left with the poodle all day. To his surprise he finds out why the little dog has been barking so much! This is a sweet story to read with a child who has a barky dog – or who wants one! This book can be found in the Early Reader section of the Will Rogers Library. Kate, Who Tamed The Wind by Liz Scanlon and Lee White is a story told in a rhythmic way about a farmer who begins to suffer because of a great wind and a small girl who helps him find a solution to his problem. This book also includes some factual information about trees and their role in earth’s ecosystem. This would be a great choice for a quick exploration of nature. It also includes some helpful websites related to trees and conservation. This book can also be found in the Early Reader section of the library.
Older readers might enjoy the S.M.A.R.T.S. series. Science, Maker and Real Technology Students are the stars of these fun and easy chapter books. In S.M.A.R.T.S. and the 3-D Danger, by Melinda Metz, the students must solve the mystery at Hubble Middle School. Someone is breaking into the school at night and secretly using the school’s brand-new 3-D printer. The S.M.A.R.T.S. are being blamed but can they use their science skills to find the real troublemaker? This series can be found in the Juvenile section of the Will Rogers Library.
