Proof that Today’s Country Music is all the Same

Screen Shot 2015-01-12 at 10.29.17 AMOver the course of my life, I’ve been a fan of different music genres at different times. I liked country in middle school (back when country music was legit: Reba, Vince, Garth, George and Doug), then changed over to Top 40 and alternative during my high school years. I actually owned a Rage Against the Machine CD. College tastes ran more to hip-hop, as witnessed at my recent sorority reunion, and today I listen to primarily mainstream country, although I long for the days of 80s and 90s country.

I admit, the “trucker hat” country of today is more rock than anything, and I do like it. I’ve got a Luke Bryan album on my iPod and I paid to see Jason Aldean in concert last year. But the industry is under a lot of scrutiny lately because all the artists “sound the same” and lean toward wardrobe choices like trucker hats and chain wallets, rather than Wranglers and Justin boots.

This video below proves that maybe all the scrutiny is happening for a reason. The video’s creator took six popular country songs and made a mash-up, thus proving that we are basically listening to the same song over and over. (Kind of like a Danielle Steel novel. It works once, it’s bound to work every other time!) Take a quick look; it’s pretty good!
