Claremore Robotics Team Heading to WORLD!

The Claremore robotics program is only in its second year, and director David Isenbart must be doing something right.

Earlier this year, three of his teams (consisting of junior high and high school students) qualified to complete in the Oklahoma state tournament. The high school team emerged victorious; after winning the award for best design, two students came out on top in the Nothing But Net challenge. Both of those students, Nathan Wallace and Gavin Beck, are heading to the World competition in Louisville, Kentucky, April 20 – 23. Only five teams from Oklahoma will be attending the championship event, and 33 countries will be represented from around the globe.

robotics3This year, the teams built a robot, which had to essentially play basketball, picking up balls and shooting them into a net. Different net heights earned different point amount, like skee-ball. The CHS team ended up placing in the top 200 out of nearly 7,000 teams. Get a better idea of what we’re talking about HERE.

Students involved in the robotics program must be extremely proficient in math and programming. They’re obviously well-spoken and intelligent, and they’re interviewed during competition, as well. Before building the robot, a complete 3-D model is drawn, so computer knowledge is a must.

In order to send both boys to World, some serious fundraising needs to be done. If you would like to donate to help the Claremore High School robotics team, please send a check to Will Rogers Junior High, c/o David Isenbart.

Congratulations, Nathan and Gavin! Go, Zebras!
