Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, I used some goat’s milk soap. I thought I was doing this great thing by supporting a local business (which is obviously still a great thing), so I bought some. And I didn’t care for it, because it didn’t lather at all. Which is the whole point of soap, right? I chalked that up to a lesson that I’m not meant for goat’s milk soap and went on about my life.
Then I discovered Simply Pure-fect, another local businesses that specializes in goat’s milk soap. Owner Kim Grubb and I had plans to meet for an interview, but before that day came, I ran across her products at The Burlap Closet in downtown Claremore. After I saw it in person, I was even more excited to meet her and hear her story.
When we did meet, one of the first things Kim mentioned was that she loved how much it lathered. From my experience, she had to be bluffing. I challenged her on it. She let me try some of her product, and she was right. It lathered a LOT, it smelled fantastic, and everything she showed me looked really cute. Presentation is half the battle, am I right?
Kim first tried goat’s milk soap several years ago. She liked that it was easy on her skin and smelled great. When she read the ingredients on standard bar soap, she figured it was probably better to stick with the natural stuff. With her three kids out of the house and her husband busy running his own company, she decided to try her hand at making her own soap. She did plenty of research, had lots of trial and error, and had a blast experimenting. When her gifts to friends and family were a hit, she knew it was time to start a business. Simply Pure-fect Soap officially launched in March of this year.
Several scents of soap are available, like Lemon Fresh, Cucumber Melon, Mocha Latte, Lime in the Coconut (one of my faves!), Oatmeal Milk & Honey, Margarita, Almond, and Fun in the Sun (another favorite!). Kim gets creative and sees what people like the best. She’s still working on which scents will be available on a regular basis. Seasonal soaps are definitely on her to-do list, as well. For those with sensitive skin, Unscented is an option, and for men: Shave & a Haircut. You can also get these cool Soap Pockets for $3.50…they’re like mini loofahs that your soap tucks into.
Bar soap is always popular, but it takes several weeks for each batch. So what did Kim do in the meantime? Create new products! If you’re not a fan of bar soap, try Simply Pure-fect Goat’s Milk Body Wash, available in Spearmint, Coconut, Cucumber, Orange and Oatmeal, Milk & Honey. For you manly types, try Unscented or Shave & a Haircut. If you want to pamper yourself or give a fun gift, try a Bath Bomb! These bad boys are HUGE and Kim swears they fizz plenty. After the lather conversation, I trust her word on this.
The pampering doesn’t stop once you’re out of the bath. Smooth on some Whipped Body Butter, which comes in a small jar with an adorable wooden spoon. It’s available in Green Fig, Butter Mint, Lovable Lavender, Lemon Cheer and Fragrance Free. It’s free of preservatives and chemicals. There is also lip balm in Pomegranate, Peppermint, Citrus, and Tea Tree Eucalyptus, with the main ingredients being almond oil, beeswax, and shea butter.
Kim is even making deodorant! She recently tested it on a golf trip to Florida and was pleased with the results. While natural deodorant usually is heavy on the baking soda, that can cause rashes on a lot of folks. The Simply Pure-fect version uses magnesium oil instead. Most people are deficient in magnesium, so this is a bonus.
If you want to be kind to more than just your skin, Simply Pure-fect has powdered laundry soap. It’s made with coconut oil and it’s fragrance-free, so it’s gentle. If you’re feeling daring, you can try Lavender or Lemon Cheer. Round up the linen kindness with Lavender Linen Spray; the lavender scent promotes restful sleep, so it’s perfect to spray on your sheets or pillows before slumber time. Plus, it smells delightful.
Simply Pure-fect Soaps are available currently at The Burlap Closet and J&J Pharmacy in Claremore. Toodles & Kaboodles carries the laundry soap for delicate baby laundry. Kimberly also has a display at her home, so customers are welcome to set a time to stop in and shop. The company’s facebook page and website also allow online shopping, which is convenient. Local pick-up is available.
Kim’s marketing and art degrees help with her company and allow her to be creative at the same time. She is enjoying the thrill of creating new scents and products, and is excited about the prospect of bringing unique, homegrown products to Claremore.
