The work of community champion, Crystal Campbell, and two local coalitions was recently recognized when the Rogers County Coalition and Healthy Community Partnership were selected as a 2016 Oklahoma Turning Point Council (OTPC) Community Champion!
The Will Rogers Park Project and the efforts of the Rogers County Coalition & Healthy Community Partnership rose to the top of the award nomination pool and became this year’s awardee for the children’s health category.
The OTPC Community Champion Award Program recognizes the service and dedication of those that make our communities and state better through innovative partnerships for health improvement! This year, Community Champion nominations were evaluated by 15 volunteers representing various community sectors from across the state.
OTPC Community Champions were recognized at a special awards luncheon during the Annual Turning Point Conference on Wednesday, August 31st, 2016 at the NCED in Norman, OK. Campbell was present to receive the award along with HCP President, Catherine Heimdale, Rogers County Coalition Vice President, Tonda Ames, TSET Healthy Living Program Lead Project Director, Alyson Short, and the area Turning Point Council representative, Fauzia Khan. Unable to attend, but also deeply involved in the project was Renetta Harrison, Health Educator, Rogers County Health Department.
A professional videographer Rick Combs conducted interviews and collected video footage related to the Will Rogers Park Project. The video was shown during the award luncheon and at the most recent Healthy Community Partnership and Rogers County Coalition joint meeting.
