Claremore Man Appointed by Oklahoma Governor

Governor Mary Fallin today announced the appointment of Robert L. Melton Sr., of Claremore, to the Oklahoma Water Resources Board.

Melton will serve a seven-year term beginning May 15, 2015, pending confirmation by the state Senate. Melton will replace Ed Fite, whose term expired in 2015 but continues to serve until a successor is confirmed.

Melton, president of a family-owned auto dealership, will serve as a municipal water use representative. He will represent Region 8, which covers Adair, Cherokee, Craig, Delaware, Mayes, McIntosh, Muskogee, Nowata, Okmulgee, Ottawa, Rogers, Sequoyah and Wagoner counties.

Melton twice has served as chairman during his 13 years on the Claremore Industrial and Economic Development Trust and as chairman of the Claremore Strategic Planning Group.

“Rob Melton is a hard-working businessman who is deeply involved in his community and understands the importance of protecting one of our most valuable resources,” said Fallin. “His business skills and knowledge of economic development issues in northeastern Oklahoma make him a good fit on the Water Resources Board.”

Melton earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas. He and his wife, Sandra, reside in Claremore.

“I appreciate Governor Fallin’s confidence in me to serve on this important board,” Melton said. “I will do my best to make sure future generations of Oklahomans will have access to clean and safe water.”
