Last summer, I went on vacation with my family. Shortly before we were scheduled to leave, I realized that for the first time in my life, I didn’t have someone to watch my dog. I’d need to find a boarding facility and I didn’t know where to begin.
I thought for a moment and realized that my pal Shawn Weaver owned Carmik Pet Daycare. (You may also know Shawn from The Bottle Shack. I also know him from middle school.) I contacted Shawn and he eased my mind and told me everything I needed to know.
The big day came and I loaded up Jake, my German shepherd. Let’s face it, no dog is excited to be cooped up, but it’s not like I envisioned (which is a crate). The runs at Carmik are large and enable pets to either stay inside or go out for a breath of fresh air. The building that houses the 40 runs is both heated and air-conditioned, complete with ceiling fans and music, so your pup or kitty won’t feel scared. Owners can either provide their pet’s favorite food, or Carmik can use their own for a small fee.
Carmik was established in 1984 and has continued to grow under the leadership of Shawn and his wife, Janelle.
The facility offers plenty for any pet owner, like Yappy Hour and a play center, a full grooming salon, group and private obedience classes, and a pet bakery! That’s right, you can order a custom cake for your four-legged friend to celebrate any occasion.

If you talk to the manager, Casey, she will answer all of your questions. She is a longtime staff member and it’s easy to see that she truly cares about all of the pets who come through the door.
I was so impressed, actually, that I have used Carmik since then for boarding, and this time I had two dogs. Casey took great care of them. Also, it’s convenient because if you board your dogs, you can get them groomed while they’re there. That’s like two birds with one stone.
