Claremore Self-Defense for Women: Ashley’s Take

Not long ago, I met with Larry Pejak and RedCloud Anquoe of BJJ Coach Claremore, a local Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school. While my goal was to write a story educating Claremore about the school and its offerings, I ended up signing up for their first women’s self-defense class.

The class was held on a Friday evening for two hours at BJJ Coach Claremore, which is located at 603 E. Will Rogers Blvd. There were approximately 15 women in attendance, and we learned a lot! The class was led by RedCloud and Larry, and they demonstrated each move, then the women were paired with a partner to practice for a few minutes. A total of 10 moves were taught over the course of the evening. Because there is always more to learn, a Level Two class will be offered soon. The plan is to offer a class each month.

It was a lot of fun, and I met some new people. Everything was casual and easygoing, with no pressure at all. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable athletic wear. You’ll be barefoot during the class, so keep that in mind if you’re weird about your feet. The cost of each class is $10 per person.
