The J.M. Davis Arms & Historical Museum is a gem unto itself, but right now they have an extra-special exhibit. Through November 14, it’s a good idea to stop in and see the Remembering Our Fallen display.
“Each Fallen Hero, shown here, left behind family and friends who will never forget them and we must be there to support them. Remember their loved ones, continue to pray for them and speak their names…most importantly, speak their names.”
Sponsored by the Tulsa World and Bellevue University, the exhibit features all of the men (and woman) in the armed forces who gave the ultimate sacrifice since 9/11. Each is listed with photographs, hometown, branch of service, cause of death, and age.
That’s what got me. While a few were in their 30s, the majority were kids, 18, 19, 20 years old. The photographs all show them in military uniform; some of the faces are fierce and determined, while others show young people clowning around, making the best of a bad situation.
Many of the honored are from Tulsa or Broken Arrow, Edmond or Oklahoma City. Some are from tiny burgs that I’ve never heard of. One is from Inola. Two from Chelsea. Three from Claremore. None of them are forgotten.
Make a stop by the gun museum. It’s an ideal way to spend Veterans Day, by honoring our local heroes. The museum is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10a – 5p. Admission is by donation.
To the men and women of the armed forces of this great nation, thank you.
