Gaywool Dye is easy, consistent, cost effective, colorfast and provides a wide color palette. It has been available in the U.S. and Canada for over 30 years. Shepherd’s Cross has developed a new online store, with the arrival of the Gaywool product, ShepherdsCross.Biz , for retail customers. Wholesale dealers may call or email to place an order. Orders will be filled and shipped within 24 – 48 business hours.

Shepherd’s Cross is a working sheep farm, mini wool mill, agritourism facility, and a fiber and farm gift shop. They have been working with fiber for nearly 25 years, and teach a vast array of classes. Their team handles fiber from the shearing of the sheep, to the finished product.

Gaywool Dyes originated in 1974. That’s when they were first packed and distributed in an old shearing shed on the family farm in Gayfield, Longford, Tasmania. The name of the business came from the initials of Gillian Arndell Youl. (GAY.) Her husband was Richard Field Thomas and the business was originally called Gayfield Wool and then later changed to Gaywool. Gaywool Dyes continues to be in the family with the name of Arndell given to some family members. Gill is now in her 80s and her enthusiasm and energy for life is admired by her many family and friends.

Gaywool Originals & Bush Blends are high-quality dyes that are quick and easy to use with a wide palette of colors.

Shepherd’s Cross is home to a Mini-Wool Mill. There are guided tours available – wool is processed on site – washed, dyed with Gaywool dyes, combed, spun, and woven or felted into a finished product. The Shepherd’s Shop features a host of “woolly” and farm-related handmade gifts made by Shepherd’s Cross and over 50 local crafters. Yarn, yarn, & more yarn – natural, many types, produced and processed on the farm. Shepherd’s Cross also offers roving, batts, felting supplies, knitting needles, spinning and weaving supplies and much more, including animal-welfare approved wool.

Fiber Arts Classes are available at the farm throughout the year. Learn more HERE!
