Rogers County Literacy Council brings the RoCo Readers program to Rogers County through a grant from Believe in-Reading. RCLC is seeking volunteers for the RoCo Reader’s 2018-2019 school year. The program had a very successful first year in Claremore schools.  This year, Westside Elementary, Justus-Tiawah Elementary, and Inola Elementary schools will be added to the program. This year we plan to have at least 24 volunteers!

The RoCo Reader objective is to promote a love of literacy and self-confidence in young readers in Rogers County. “Helping a child develop a love of reading will have a lasting impact. As they become more confident in their ability to read, students will be setting themselves up for success in school and beyond.”  (Ashley Cook)

Volunteers will tutor readers needing encouragement and support in grades first through third, at the school for 30 minutes each week. At the end of each session, children will be able to take home books gifted by the RCLC to begin building their own at-home library. Last year, the RCLC gave out 480 books to students in the program.

All RoCo Reader tutors will complete a one-day training and pass a background check. The training will be held Saturday, August 25 at the Will Rogers Library in Claremore.

Sign-ups have begun for the volunteer training session. Volunteers interested in the program should contact the RoCo Reader Coordinator, Ashley Cook by email at rocoreaders@gmail.comto receive an application and additional information. Please send a $35 registration fee and the completed application to reserve your spot in the training session to:
