Heather’s House: Claremore’s Newest Daycare

As a parent, I’m all too familiar with the challenges of finding quality childcare. There are so many things to think about, with the main decision being to choose a center or in-home daycare?

Well, Claremore has a new in-home daycare that is perfect for your needs! Heather McVay and her husband, Mark, moved to town this past summer to be closer to family. Mark is an assistant principal at Will Rogers Junior High, and Heather has been eager to get back to her passion, early childhood education.

Originally from Peculiar, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City, Heather and Mark met in college at UMKC. She studied early childhood education and elementary education. Heather taught pre-K before she had her own children, when she decided to stay home and start her own daycare operation. She was licensed in Kansas before moving to Claremore.

Heather and Mark purchased a home and renovated it with the daycare in mind. After the work was done and Oklahoma licensing complete, Heather’s House was open for business.

Heather has the ability to care for up to seven children, ages birth – 5, with both full- and part-time openings. Children receive two meals and two snacks per day. Heather’s House participates in a nutrition program, ensuring that healthy, quality food is served. The daycare is open from 7a – 5p.

Thanks to Heather’s background in teaching pre-K, she has developed a strong set of skills in helping kids learn to adjust to new environments, get along with others, and social and emotional development. She works with the children using a variety of age-appropriate academic activities. Heather helps with pre-reading skills in a casual environment, making sure kids are prepared for pre-school.

Other activities include making play-doh, painting, holiday crafts, and cooking. Outdoor play is key, as well.

Heather’s House is a warm, inviting, and kid-friendly environment. Heather uses an app to send parents photo updates and keep parents informed on a regular basis. For more information, please follow Heather’s House on facebook or call Heather at 816-738-0573.
