Rogers State junior Christian Merriwether has been named the Heartland Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week for games played from Mar. 18 – Mar. 24.
Merriwether led the Hillcats to a three-game sweep of Texas A&M International this week, hitting .538 with a home run, four RBIs and five runs scored over the weekend. Merriwether also drew three walks and a hit by pitch to reach base at a .647 clip.
The Castro Valley, California native hit a home run in the series opener bringing in two of the Hillcats’ seven runs on the day. The outfielder then added an RBI in each of the two remaining games of the series as RSU scored in double digits in both wins.
Merriwether is second in the Heartland Conference in on-base percentage this season reaching base at a .491 rate. This is Merriwether’s first Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week award.
Merriwether and the rest of the Hillcats will return to action Tuesday, traveling to Alva, Oklahoma to take on Northwestern Oklahoma State in a non-conference battle. Rogers State hosts St. Edward’s in Heartland Conference play this weekend at the Diamond Sports Complex.
