Rogers State Men’s Basketball and head coach Justin Barkley have announced the signing of Jett Sternberger, who was recently named Mr. Basketball in Oklahoma, to a National Letter of Intent for the upcoming 2019-20 season.
Sternberger led Kingfisher High School to 103 victories and a pair of Oklahoma State Championships in 2017 and 2019 during a four-year career in which he amassed 2,036-career points for the Yellow Jackets. He was named the 2019 State Tournament MVP after leading Kingfisher to a 28-1 season, under head coach Jarod Reese.
The 6’2 guard has received several major honors, including being named the 2019 VYPE Magazine Mr. Basketball in Oklahoma. Sternberger averaged 16 points, five assists and two rebounds per game in 2018-19, leading Kingfisher to the No. 1 ranking in the state of Oklahoma by Max Preps and the No. 29 ranking nationally by Max Preps.
Sternberger, who was also the State Tournament MVP in 2017 after leading the Yellow Jackets to the 4A State Championship, has recently been selected to the Faith 7 All-Star game, putting the top 10 players in the state of Oklahoma against the top 10 players from Texas.
Sternberger has won three consecutive Canadian Valley Conference Player of the Year awards and has also been named to The Oklahoman’s Little City First Team in 2017 and 2018.
A two-sport player at Kingfisher, Sternberger also had Oklahoma Coaches Association 2019 All-State Selections in Basketball and Football.
A quarterback for the Yellow Jackets, Sternberger was named the 3A and conference Most Valuable Player on Offense in 2018 after throwing for more than 2,400 yards and 33 touchdowns this past season.
Sternberger is the son of Jackie and Jason. He is also the younger brother of Jace Sternberger, who is an All-American tight end at Texas A&M.
