At the Oklahoma Main Street Annual Awards Banquet, Claremore’s Main Street Program was named Top Main Street Program in the State by the Oklahoma Main Street Center, a division of the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. Approximately 35 communities in Oklahoma competed for category awards and the Top Main Street Program Award.
Buffy Hughes, Director of the OK Main Street Center says, “Claremore Main Street has had a banner year in 2018 as several projects came to fruition and community support hit an all-time high. Through teamwork by the Executive Director, Board of Directors, many volunteers and the City of Claremore, three major placemaking projects were completed, a record number of businesses opened, and volunteer hours peaked. The community has rallied behind projects like Music on Main and Alley Activation 2025 and has been excited and welcoming of new businesses opening.
Claremore Main Street has worked closely with the City of Claremore through its Master Planning Process which includes a downtown focus through 2018 and into 2019. Relationships with the city are better than ever, and a shared vision for the future of the district will lead to continued success in the future.” Board Chair Lou Flanagan indicated, “What a great honor this is for our merchants and our community to receive this state recognition.”
