Junior Ocieleta is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization comprised of young women who work together to raise funds for charitable organizations, schools and scholarship foundations. With past events like the Christmas Home Tour and Hangar Dance to our latest Masquerade Ball, they are able to assist and make an impact in our community.
Rogers County Literacy Council requested a grant for new English language study materials. JO generously donated and we were delighted to purchase the materials in the photo. It is such a boost to have this donation! Many RCLC learners contribute to the cost of materials, but when a learner cannot, these books make it possible for local people improving their language skills to continue learning. RCLC provides one-on-one English and reading tutoring, English classes, citizenship classes, and computer literacy classes for adults. In addition, the RoCo Reader program which provides volunteers in six Rogers County schools helps “almost readers” in first through third grade. As well as one on one tutoring each week during the school year, volunteers bringing a level appropriate book for each child in the program each week to keep!
RCLC would like to thank JO Claremore for their support to literacy and our community at large, and to congratulate their members success in their fundraising mission. Together we all make Claremore, and Rogers County, a better place to live and work.
RCLC has recently updated their web page; you can see it at RoCoRead.org. Training for tutors will be coming soon, for the adult programs and for the children’s program. Email Edel Godwin at director@rocoread.org to volunteer.
RCLC has served our community since 1985 and is supported by grants from Sarkeys Foundation, the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, the Oklahoma Literacy Coalition, the Believe in Reading Foundation, and local fundraising. Local fundraising includes the Trivia Night at J Farley’s (first Monday each month), the annual letter campaign and individual/corporate donations.
