February is a great month to celebrate love and kindness! The Kindness Book by Todd Parr is a book for our youngest readers. Parr has inspired and empowered millions of children around the world with his bold images and positive messages. The Kindness Book explores different ways to express kindness with colorful pictures and simple text. “There are many ways to be kind. Kindness is listening. Kindness is helping things grow. Kindness is letting others be who they are.”

This book can be found in the Early Reader section of the Will Rogers Library.

Always by Alison McGhee is a book for early readers featuring a little puppy who is always ready to protect his friend. McGhee gives voice to the devotion that knows no bounds between a child and their beloved dog. The special love of pets is sweetly depicted in this book. Always can be found in the Early Reader section of the Will Rogers Library.

For older readers, we can recommend Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House series. Little House On The Prairie is a children’s classic. When Pa Ingalls decides to sell the little log house, the family travels from Wisconsin to Kansas. This book tells the story of Laura and her family’s life. This book and others in the series can be found in the Juvenile section of the Will Rogers Library.

A more modern selection could be Ask Emma by Sheryl Berk and Carrie Berk. When thirteen-year-old Emma Woods begins a blog for her classmates, she is surprised by the questions asked by her peers. She expects to give advice on friendship, style, school and crushes. But other topics soon crop up. Will Emma find her voice, write what’s in her heart and truly stand up for what she believes in? There are several Ask Emma books in this series. Ask Emma can be found in the Juvenile section of the Will Rogers Library.
