The Rogers State men’s track and field team opened up the indoor track & field season on Saturday at the MIAA Rust Buster, hosted by Washburn University at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.
The Hillcats placed fifth overall, scoring 40 points in the event.
Key Performances: Freshman Carlos Vallejo was the top scoring Hillcat on the afternoon, leading Rogers State in two different events. Vallejo took second overall in the 800-meter finals, finishing less than a second off the school record with a 2:01.07.
Vallejo also led the Hillcats in the Mile, running fifth overall with a 4:30.83, 1.25 seconds ahead of fellow Hillcat Kory Wilson, who took sixth overall after winning his section of the mile finals with a 4:32.08.
Wilson also led the Hillcats in an event, taking third overall in the 3,000-meter finals. Wilson ran a time of 9:13.00 to earn a podium place in his first race collegiate race on the track.

Up Next: Rogers State will return to action in two weeks, traveling to Pittsburg, Kansas for the Wendy’s Pittsburg State Invitational. The event will take place on Saturday, January 30 and is set to begin at 2 p.m.
