Local businesses, Claremore Public Schools and Rogers County partner with city on April 23 for day dedicated to environmental work
The City of Claremore will host its annual Household Hazardous Waste Event on Saturday, April 23, 2022. This initiative provides an opportunity for Rogers County residents to safely dispose of common household pollutants, such as E-Waste, tires, ammunition and medication. Items can be dropped off for discarding from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Claremore Industrial Park, northwest of 800 W. Lowry Road. Signage will be posted guiding participants to collection locations.
The Household Waste Event is happening in conjunction with the Rogers County Trash-Off. From Thursday, April 21, through Saturday, April 23, locations across Rogers County will be open for residents to throw away large household items, such as furniture, mattresses, carpeting and other objects too large to fit into a trash bin. Residents will be responsible for unloading debris.
These initiatives are aligned with the “Keep Oklahoma Beautiful” program, designed to empower Oklahomans to preserve and enhance the state’s natural beauty and ensure a healthy, sustainable environment. To educate on the importance of this mission, the Claremore Public Works office partnered with Claremore Public Schools fifth-graders to host an art contest highlighting pollution prevention. City of Claremore employees selected the top design through a voting process. The winning artwork, designed by Paisley King from Claremont Elementary will be proudly displayed on a city trash truck for the next five years and can be seen at the Household Waste Event.
Local industry will also be recognizing the importance of environmental health. Employees from Claremore-based CF Industries will join alongside city employees on April 23 for a coordinated clean-up effort of Cat Creek. The stream runs behind the Ne-Mar shopping center and through Cat Creek Dog Park.
“April 23 will be a busy, but important day for environmental work,” said City Manager, John Feary. “We appreciate the partnership of Rogers County, CF Industries, Claremore Public Schools and our local residents in efforts to ensure the long-standing health and sustainability of our community.”
