Hillcats Take Second Place At FHSU Lady Tiger Classic

Rogers State women’s golf wrapped up play at the FHSU Lady Tiger Classic on Tuesday.

After two rounds at the Par 72, 5,864 yard Smoky Hill Country Club, the Hillcats took second place after turning in a card of 630 (+21).

“I am proud of the ladies and their fight again this week,” said head coach Whitney Hocutt. “As a team, we need to put two rounds together. It is still early in the year, and I have no doubt that they will do that. The green complexes at Smoky Hill CC are extremely tricky and challenging. The ladies fought well and ended the day moving up a spot. Thank you to Fort Hays and Smoky Hill for hosting the event this week.”

Kristin Gudmundsdottir led RSU in a tie for fourth place after shooting 153 (+9). In total, she sank six birdies across the tournament.

“Great tournament by Kristín Gudmundsdottir, she played well all 36 holes,” continued Hocutt. “Marelda Ayal also had a comeback round today shooting +2. Brianna Maddux had a great tournament for only her second collegiate event.”

Marelda Ayal finished in a four-way tie for 16th with a card of 158 (+14). Lydia Sitorus finished 20th with a 159 (+15). Jaelynn Unger finished in a tie for 23rd with a 161 (+17). Raquel Flores rounded out the group in a three-way tie for 36th after shooting 166 (+22).

Playing as an individual, Brianna Maddux also finished in the four-way for 16th with a 158 (+14).

The Hillcats will be back in action on Monday, Oct. 3 as they travel to Destin, Fla. to compete in the 2022 Golfweek Division II Fall Classic at the Raven Course of the Sandestin Resort.
