Remembering David Allen Box

David Allen Box 77, Claremore resident, passed away from this life on Sunday January 1, 2023.

David was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma to parents Jeff and Jettie Box. He attended Haskell High School and went on to Tulsa University for undergraduate and Law school. He served in the US Army for 2 years and practiced law in Muskogee before serving as Special Judge in the 12th District Court of Oklahoma in Claremore for 21 years.

During his tenure as Judge, David presided over the Blackfox nuclear case and set a precedent for media still in use today. He also created a community service program and a Drug Court to help drug offenders get rehabilitation help, the first of its kind in the area. He also was recognized by the Oklahoma Fish and Wildlife association for his judgments that protected fish and wildlife shot out of season.

David loved the wilderness and outdoor adventures, his favorite destinations included camping and hiking in Rocky Mountain, Denali, and Glacier National Parks. Floating the Buffalo River in Arkansas was also a family favorite, many happy family memories were made floating and camping on the Buffalo.

David was an avid reader, he enjoyed reading about history, poetry, and religion. Music was another passion for David having played in band in high school. In retirement and throughout his life he enjoyed photography, taking photos and tinkering with vintage cameras.

David was preceded in death by his parents Jeff and Jettie, and brother Charles Box. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 56 years Maggie Box, daughter Nelia Box Karimi and granddaughter Jettie Karimi. He was a member of Blue Starr Church of Christ.

Services will be held at Blue Starr Church of Christ at 10am on Friday January 6, visitation on Thursday January 5, 5-7pm.
