Fundraiser Lunch for David McComb

August 3, 2014 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Claremore City Councilor and Oologah-Talala alumnus David McComb has been suffering from various health issues since 2009, and only recently was a clear diagnosis made: Essential Thrombocythemia. The 35-year-old McComb is fighting a rare illness that normally affects those over the age of 50. It is caused by an overproduction of platelets in bone marrow. He is currently taking chemotherapy drugs, which will likely lead to leukemia.

There is a bit of welcome news; a physician at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona has one opening in August to see McComb. Dr. Reuben Mesa is one of a handful of ET specialists in the country, and McComb is eligible for a clinical trial, which could save his life. However, the Mayo doesn’t accept his health insurance, and the treatment costs about $10,000.

In an effort to raise funds to send McComb to Arizona and begin effective treatment, Buddy’s Grill is hosting a fundraiser lunch on Sunday, August 3, from noon – 3p. Buddy’s is located at 630 N. J.M. Davis in Claremore.

The menu will feature chicken enchiladas. The McComb family will be there to serve customers. Donations will also be accepted at the luncheon, or can be made to the David McComb Fund at RCB Bank. If you prefer to donate online, visit giveforward.com. Please consider donating in order to help David receive the best possible care. With proper treatments, his quality of life could be greatly improved!
