Hazardous Materials Dump Day

The City of Claremore will host a household hazardous waste collection and dump day from 8 a.m. to noon on  May 31 at Claremore Expo Center.

The event is free to all Claremore residents, but a current utility bill or receipt is needed for proof of residency.

Items accepted will include household pollutants such as motor oils, oil based-paints, latex paints, pesticides, weed killers, yard-care products, household cleaners, drain openers, gasoline, batteries, solvents, corrosive liquids, flammable liquids, glues and fluorescent and CFL bulbs, compressed cylinders, fire extinguishers, oxidizers, liquid and powders.

A limit of 10 tires (no rims and no equipment tires) per household will be accepted.

Computer and electronic equipment will be accepted for a fee of $10 per monitor on CRTs 19-inches and under, and TVs under 25 inches. Larger ones will be charged $15.

Ten dumpsters will also be available at the  Expo from 8 a.m. to noon, or residents can take items directly to Quarry Landfill, located at 13720 E. 46th St. North, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners will not be accepted without freon removal and a certified technician’s freon removal certification statement and will not be received at the rolloffs located at the Expo Center.

Refrigerants must be taken directly to the landfill.  All metals and piping will be accepted at the landfill.

“The gates (at the landfill) close promptly at 1 p.m. even if you are waiting in line,” said Charlene Lawrence, City of Claremore Pretreatment and Stormwater Manager. “Please don’t wait until the last minute. If you are going to the landfill, please go early.”
