Jacob Krumwiede, Will Rogers Memorial Museum assistant director, has long been involved in the Oklahoma Museum Association. At the recent OMA state conference in Woodward, he was elected to represent the Second Congressional District on the governing board of directors. Each of the state’s Congressional Districts has a seat on the board.
Since being invited to annual conferences during the past five years, attending seminars and hands-on workshops, he said he has gained an invaluable insight into other state museums.
“Getting to know other professionals has created good working relations with other museums. And we have been able to share in joint programs,” Krumwiede said.
Recently he and Bart Taylor, Will Rogers Memorial Museum assistant curator of education, shared in a program at the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center in Enid.
Krumwiede and Taylor have been involved in developing educational programs for both the Memorial Museum in Claremore and Birthplace Ranch near Oologah. They have recorded a podcast program, which is also aired on RSU Radio FM91.3
He has been a member of OMA since 2010 at the encouragement of Jennifer Holt, Will Rogers Memorial Museum curator of collections, and current vice president of the OMA board of directors.
OMA’s mission is to support museums in the state with professional development and behind the scenes programs and projects as well as training and technical information for staff and volunteers of the 500 museums and historical sites in Oklahoma.
The primary focus is professional development and advocacy, according to Krumwiede.
He came to the Will Rogers Memorial Museum as a volunteer intern and started working part-time soon after. In 2010 he joined the staff in a full-time position. He was serving as business manager until being named assistant director a year ago.
