We Met Claremore’s Sign-Painting Legend Today!

Travis and I took a stroll this morning over to the Little Free Library. Because, positivity in Claremore. On the way back, we passed Jake Krumwiedie’s favorite downtown eatery, Dot’s Cafe. In front of the window, a gentleman sat on a stool with an array of art supplies. He was giving the Dot’s window a facelift, complete with horses and a stagecoach.

After chatting for a few minutes about his art and the fact that he’s been painting signs in town for 50 years, we asked for his name. I recognized the name Mike Goodwin immediately, as I remember the huge billboard that used to stand at the corner of Will Rogers and Lynn Riggs, where Walgreen’s lives now. I especially remember when my dad rented the sign to send a 30th birthday message to my mother, and that she was not pleased. Sorry, Mom!

If you happen to eat at Dot’s, make sure to admire the new window art. (Also, it’s quite appropriate for the 70th Will Rogers Stampede Rodeo, which is coming up in just a couple weeks!)
