Summer is a great time to have all kinds of adventures! A beautiful early reader book to check out this month is Time of Wonder by Robert McCloskey. McCloskey is the author of several classic children’s books such as Blueberries For Sal and Make Way For Ducklings. Time of Wonder is a poetic exploration of island life – perfect for summer daydreaming. The illustrations are old-fashioned and innocent with a touch of watercolor. They could be a wonderful springboard for conversations about nature and island life. Time of Wonder can be found in the Early Reader section of the Will Rogers Library.

Another Early Reader selection is Summertime Waltz by Nina Payne with illustrations by Gabi Swiatkowska. The text is actually woven into the interesting pictures in this lovely poem of a book! This is an interesting read-aloud book that is sure to bring up good summer memories.

Young chapter book readers can’t miss with the classic The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. Spend a hot afternoon in a cool place with this book and you are sure to be transported back to the great Mississippi in a simpler time with the “part scamp, part scalawag and completely irresistible” Tom Sawyer. This wonderful classic can be found in the Juvenile Fiction section of the Will Rogers Library.
