Junior Ocieleta presented a check to the Justus-Tiawah pre-k classes to cover the cost of the Highlights pre-k program that they need. Junior Ocieleta member Jessica Wilbourn said, “Teachers spend way too much of their own money trying to support the classrooms. We were so happy to be able to help with this.” The Highlights program will provide each student a magazine every month with activities, as well as music and an online curriculum that will support what their teachers are teaching them.
“The students were all so excited when we arrived. Their teacher had already explained what we were helping with and they couldn’t wait to say ‘thank you!’ It really made our day,” said Stephanie Andrews, JO President. “Justus-Tiawah doesn’t have a company partner yet, like the Claremore Schools have, so we were especially excited to be able to do something for them,” said JO member Emily Brown.
Junior Ocieleta is an organization of approximately 30 women that helps to fill the gap on small funding projects that are needed around the community. They have created a reading room at Claremont Elementary, bought superhero capes for kindergarteners at Westside Elementary to support “Super Reading Habits” and they also have a Scholarship Foundation to support local high school students upon graduation. But they don’t only support education; they also adopt children through the Christmas Angel Program, donate to local food pantries, and much much more! Junior Ocieleta has been in the Claremore area since it was founded in 1956 by Ocie Mayberry.
