Catch Claremore-Sequoyah on the News!

Thanks to my work, I spend a lot of time on social media, therefore, I am familiar with a lot of events and stories about local folks. When sad events happen, the hashtag #communitystrong is always quick to crop up. Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen #verdigrisstrong and #cfdstrong and #sequoyahstrong.

What I didn’t know was that Sequoyah Strong is more than a hashtag used on Twitter; it’s an actual organization. My family is a new member of the Sequoyah community, and I found the facebook page for Sequoyah Strong within the first few days.

The group is used to fundraise for families in need within the community. When a family loses a child, or is facing a serious illness, or is victim of a house fire, Sequoyah Strong steps in to help. Over the course of the past 18 months, upwards of $6,000 has been donated to Sequoyah families by this nonprofit.

Some of the fundraising efforts include sales of decals, t-shirts, and Rustic Cuff bracelets. Local restaurants help in promoting special nights for Sequoyah Strong, when a portion of the proceeds is donated back to the organization. O Whata Night! is coming up on October 11; eat at Claremore Whataburger from 5p – 8p and 20% of the sales will be donated. It’s a fun night for the whole family; you can even enjoy a photo booth and other goodies!

Learn more about Sequoyah Strong and how you can get involved by “liking” the facebook page and watching this segment on KJRH (channel 2).
