Texas Youth Groups Working Hard in Claremore This Week

Have you noticed several white vans in town with Texas plates? That’s a group of young men and women who have landed in Claremore for the week on a mission trip.

Central Texas Conference Youth in Mission is based in Texas, and is a part of the United Methodist Church. There are 12 teams of junior and senior high school students who are currently in Claremore and the surrounding communities. They are each assigned a property that is need of some tender loving care, whether it’s yard work, clearing away debris, or basic maintenance.

CTCYM brings more than 2,500 youth and adults together to put Christian faith into action by repairing and rebuilding homes and small facilities weathered by age, poverty or natural disaster. The CTCYM experience is brought together by the spirit of God and a volunteer task force of youth and adults from around the Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. This group identifies a geographical area of need to rebuild, a theme for the week to focus both the work and worship, and the steps to achieve both. Then, for two separate weeks, youth groups from across the Conference blend together to become CTCYM Living Centers and partners in mission. Each Center is led by a well-trained, all-volunteer staff dedicated to providing participants with a spirit-filled week of service, devotions, worship, fellowship and fun!

We caught up with four of the groups in Claremore today. They were all working hard, and still smiling and friendly. So if you see these groups out and about, be sure thank them and say ‘hello’!
