RoCo Fit has offered this free program to the community since 2012 with over 2,000 unduplicated participants having registered and reaped the benefits. Rogers County Health Department is proud to continue supporting this program with a coordinator and incentive program shirts. The community collaboration of RoCo Fit participants, volunteers, and partnerships contribute to improving health statistics for Rogers County.

In addition to improved health statistics, many past participants have shared their experiences through written testimonial. Here are a few:

Over the past few years I have participated in the ROCO Fit program while fighting physical disabilities, obesity, and sometimes a very bad attitude. This year, 2018, through my willing participation in the program this 65-year-old, diabetic T2 has lost inches, weight and her bad attitude. I may not be the fastest on the track, nor able to go the distance in a 5k, but I can consistently walk 2+ miles and have energy to spare. Thank you, Renetta and Mentors, for encouraging me, never giving up on me and keeping me going. All y’all are just the best! See you next session.

I started in the fall session as a way to get some exercise because my arthritis and Lyme disease had gotten to the point where I couldn’t do my work outs, and my wife and I could go together and work out at our own pace. We both wound up with knee surgery at the end of the fall session. I decided to come back in the spring and try the speed walking and have really enjoyed it. It has allowed me to continue to be challenged and has helped my knee to recover fully. I really enjoy the walking and the people at RoCo are a great group that encourages everyone to get up and move at whatever pace you can. Because of RoCo I participated in my first official 5K ” Beat The Heat” in Salina and I was the first Walker to finish with a time of 38:52. My knee has recovered and I am pain free! I am looking forward to Thursday’s mock 5K and am ready for the Fall session. So I would encourage anyone to come out and get moving and improve your health. See you all in the fall.

RoCo fit is a wonderful way to walk, laugh, sweat, have fun, and get closer to fit! Give it a try.

The first walk OR walk/run workout is on Tuesday, August 7th, 6:00 p.m. at Claremore Lake Park, newest shelter past bathrooms and across lake from boat and fishing dock-look for sign by shelter. Workouts for all fitness levels (fresh off the couch to avid runner) continue every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in Claremore Lake Park.
