RSU’s Thomas Sets School Record

The Rogers State Men’s Track & Field senior Alfred Thomas set a school record in the 200-meter dash to lead the way for the Hillcats, who wrapped up the regular season on Saturday with several strong performances at the Wichita State hosted KT Woodman Classic.

Thomas won the 200-meter dash with a 21.26, breaking the previous school record by .12 seconds. Thomas also set an NCAA Division II Provisional time in the race.

Quintin Powell, who held the previous school record, took fourth overall with a 21.86 in the event.

Thomas also had a strong run in the 100-meter dash, running third in preliminaries with a 10.56, just .04 off of his personal and season best. Thomas did not run in the finals.

Thomas also joined Jacques Morgan, Powell, and D’Jiron Lilley in the 4×100-meter dash as the group took the victory with a 41.30, tying the fifth fastest time in program history.

Baffour Kyem finished as runner up in the triple jump, clearing a distance of 14.30 meters on his fourth and fifth jumps of the event.

Kyem also jumped in the long jump event. He finished ninth with a cleared distance of 6.40 meters. Lilley jumped a distance of 6.29 meters to take 11th.

Nick Williams also grabbed a top three finish during the weekend, taking third overall in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Williams ran the second fastest time in school history, finishing with a 9:39.37, just 3.01 seconds off of his school record and personal best.

Morgan earned a top-10 finish to lead the way for the Hillcats in the 400-meter dash, running sixth overall with a 51.02.

Byrun Ratliff led the Hillcats in the 800-meter run and 1500-meter run. Ratliff ran a 1:59.61 to finish 12th overall in the 800. He ran a 4:04.82 in the 1500.

Colton Green led the Hillcats in the 5000-meter run, finishing with a 15:31.71.

The Hillcats will now set their sights on the Great American Conference Championships, which will be hosted at Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee, Oklahoma on April 19-20.
