Rogers State Women’s Soccer’s first-ever meeting on the pitch with Northeastern State played out to a 0-0 draw after 110 minutes Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field.
Despite the goalless draw, both teams had several opportunities in a tightly contested non-conference battle between the MiAA schools.
Rogers State (3-2-1) officially carried 51 percent of the possession throughout the entirety of the game and the Hillcats also outshot Northeastern State (4-1-1) 17-15 and 9-8 in shots on target.
Both teams started the contest with several scoring opportunities. Six of the first eight shots in the contest between the two teams called the goalkeepers and defenders into action.
Revella Fisher stopped the first three shots she faced and Brennen Hockett was forced into two key saves, all inside the first 27 minutes. The third shot of the game from Hillcat forward Hannah Mushisky was then cleared off the line by a NSU defender.
Hillcat defenders Janell Hernandez and Alex Wynn also cancelled out multiple threats from the RiverHawks.
Northeastern State would have one more late attempt in the first half saved by Fisher who made four stops over the first 45 minutes.
Hockett would not be called into action again until the second half when Laurelle Theodore and Hannah Mushisky each had key scoring chances stopped by Hockett inside the first 10 minutes from resuming play.
Kori Watters and Bria Salazar also had strong opportunities in the second half but each were denied by saves from Hockett.
Fisher would have to make two saves in the second half, one in the first minute and one in the last minute to force overtime.
In each of the overtime periods, both teams had one shot. Fisher was forced into a save from Emily Seller, while Maggie Brown’s effort was stopped by Hockett less than a minute later.
In the second overtime, RSU had the best chance of perhaps the entire game when Mushisky got a free header at the edge of the six-yard box. The junior header the ball down and past Hockett but it went inches by the wrong side of the post.
Fisher made one more comfortable save in the 109th minute before the second overtime period ran out.
Fisher finished the game with eight saves and picked up her third shutout of the season and first since the second game of the season. Hockett also had eight saves for the RiverHawks.
Rogers State will now hit the road to wrap up non-conference play, traveling to the Oklahoma City area to take on Central Oklahoma on Friday. The Hillcats will kickoff with the Bronchos at 7 p.m. on Tom Thompson Field in Edmond.
