William Penn Adair Rogers was born on November 4th 1879, just down the road from Claremore in Oologah. Today Google released an honorary Google Doodle with his likeness riding a horse and doing what he did best, roping.
Claremore is home to the Will Rogers Memorial Museum and is the final resting place of Mr. Rogers. The museum is open year-round and offers viewings of his classic films in their newly renovated theater.
Will Rogers was the biggest movie star in America in 1934. He and pilot Wiley Post were both killed in a plain crash near Point Barrow, Alaska in 1935.
