Happy New Year from the Will Rogers Library. We hope this new year finds you ready to read some fun books. For young readers, “I’m Not Tired Yet!” by Marianne Richmond is a really cute bedtime story about a little boy who is excellent at procrastinating! With colorful illustrations and rhyming text, this may be a book little readers ask for again and again.
“Margaret and Margarita” by Lynn Reiser is a book about two little girls meeting on a playground. Although one speaks only English and the other only Spanish they discover that they have many things in common. This is a lovely bilingual book with fun illustrations to share with any young child. Books are an excellent way to introduce new languages and cultures to young readers.
Both of these books can be found in the Early Reader section of the Will Rogers Library.
For older children who are into chapter books, Mike Lupica is an author to explore. Mr. Lupica is a sports columnist for the New York Daily News as well as a member ESPN’s The Sports Reporters. He writes for all age groups and sports enthusiasts. His books for young readers have won many awards. “Last Man Out” is about Tommy Gallagher, a 12-year-old football player known for his toughness on the field. Yet when his father, a Boston firefighter, is injured, Tommy must face a new challenge. We have many of Mike Lupica’s sports-themed chapter books in the Juvenile section of the Will Rogers Library. There are many different sports stories to choose from!
Another fun chapter book is “Mrs. Smith’s Spy School for Girls” by Beth McMullen. After another botched escape attempt from boarding school, Abigail is stunned to discover that the school is actually a cover for an elite spy ring! Not only that, but her mother is the top agent and is now missing! Can Abigail find her mother or will this be mission impossible? This book is also found in the Juvenile section of the library.
