Hello to all of our readers! We hope you are having a great day and ready to learn about some fun books! This month we have an assortment of stories for you.
The Trouble With Time Travel by Stephen W. Martin is a fun, fast tale of Max who breaks a special vase and decides to escape blame by building a time machine. Max doesn’t foresee the types of problems that come along with messing with time, however, and soon comes up with a better solution. This is a cute book with fun illustrations and best suited as a read aloud or for children ages 6 and up. This would be a great launch pad for discussions about time and family histories. The Trouble With Time Travel can be found in the Early Reader section of the Will Rogers Library.
Lola’s Rules for Friendship by Jenna McCarthy is a book about making friends and all of the fun things that friends can do. This book discusses in an age-appropriate way how to make a new friend who might be a bit different from you. This book would come in handy during times of new adjustments to school or a move. With nice, multi-cultural illustrations it will be fine read aloud or independent read for slightly older readers. This book can be found in the Early Reader section of the library.
The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter is a standard spring treat to read. Although this story has been made into a movie, it is a wonderful thing to read it in its original form. We have several copies in the Early Reader section of the Will Rogers Library, along with some of the other stories in this collection. Some have the original illustrations and some have been updated. This story never gets old and can generate quite a bit of conversation with young readers.
Older readers might enjoy a few chapter book choices. Ivy and Bean by Annie Barrows is a series of easy chapter books about two girls who have lots of different adventures. This series is a great choice for a reader just making the jump from easier books to a chapter format. Easy vocabulary and frequent illustrations make this a good choice. Ivy and Bean can be found in the Juvenile section of the Will Rogers Library.
Nathan Hale’s Alamo All Stars by Nathan Hale is a fun way to learn a little history in graphic novel form. This is actually a small series of books depicting different historical events in American history. These can be found in the Juvenile section of the library.
We’re Not From Here is a little introduction to the genre of Science Fiction at a juvenile reader level. This novel by Geoff Rodkey tells the story of a family’s mission to save the entire human population when Earth is in ruins; with a twist of humor, this might entice older chapter readers to try Science Fiction. We have many Science Fiction choices at the library and this one can be found in the juvenile section.
