moreClaremore Archives: Happy birthday to me

Posted on October 1, 2014.

Are y’all familiar with the Timehop app? It links up to your social media accounts, and each day you receive an update showing you what you posted on that exact day in years past. This is what I posted on Facebook one year ago today:

(If you’re wondering, I tried the Krispy Kreme burger at the Tulsa State Fair on this day four years ago.) That day, October 1, 2013, was the first step in my new adventure at moreClaremore.com. My first taste of becoming “Claremore’s Know-it-all.” I was excited for a change, I was happy to be returning to the groove of things in Claremore, and I was ready to be on the ground floor of a new opportunity. I had no way of knowing then how wonderful the journey was going to be.

Remember the scene in Office Space where Peter tells his therapist that each day is worse than the one before it? Let’s refresh.

Peter should work for moreClaremore instead of Initech, because my work life has been the exact opposite of that.

When I knew my position was being downsized at my former company, I turned to social media to attempt to find something that would pay the bills. I posted this:

The next day, while on a weekend road trip with my mom and my son, I received the phone call that changed everything. Amy Gordon called while we were driving through southern Oklahoma and said, “Have you heard about this website we started? We’d like you to come talk to us.” Well, I followed moreClaremore on Facebook, but didn’t even realize at the time that there was a website. (Which there totally is and it gets like, a zillion hits per month.)

I met with Amy and her brother Robert Melton the following week, and it was a done deal.

The last year has been nothing short of fabulous. I’m thrilled to be back in Claremore, and I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many people and to be involved in so many projects, like the West Bend Block Party on the Green and #embracethetrain. The moreClaremore office is on the campus of Rogers State University, and it’s so wonderful to see how the school has grown and changed.

I’m blessed to be part of a team of such hardworking, kind and innovative people.

We may have celebrated moreClaremore’s first birthday back in July, but today is my first birthday with the company.

Thank you to Amy and Robert for choosing me.

Happy birthday.
