Bonus Fries!!

Recently, I picked up some McDonald’s for lunch. Now, before you get all judgy and “Ewww, McDonald’s is so gross and bad for you,” there are two things you should know:

  1. We were in the process of moving, which means life was chaos and there was no time for cooking. Not that we even could have cooked if we wanted to, because the entire contents of our kitchen were still packed in tubs waiting to be discovered in the garage.

AND ALSO…

2. McDonald’s is delicious. So just quit with the judging.

So, I order my McMeal and head on my McMerry way. And I dive straight into my fries, right? Directly from the fry carton in the paper bag sitting in the passenger seat. Because who has the patience to wait and eat the fries with the rest of your meal when you get home, and then they’re all cold and soggy anyway? I certainly do not have the chill for that. Anyway, when the fry carton was empty, (approximately 1 minute later), I swiftly reached my hand back in the bag thinking, “time for the bonus fries at the bottom of the bag!” and score, there were two.

Surely I’m not the only one who does this, right? I actually wondered to myself, “Do other people always check for the bonus fries?” I’ve never NOT be rewarded with bonus fries in the bottom of the bag. There are always 1-3, for sure. Which then made me wonder – DO THEY DO THIS ON PURPOSE? Is there a role in fast food organizations dedicated to dropping a couple extra fries in every to-go bag to make people happier and ensure they come back for more? Like some sort of french fry fairy? That’s what I like to imagine. My own personal french fry fairy thinking, you know, she deserves these bonus fries today. *Happily drops a few fries in bag before filling it with other food.*

Anybody else always reach for the bottom to check? And if you aren’t aware of the bonus fry phenomenon, can you explain to me how? How do you not care that you’re potentially leaving delicious fries on the proverbial table? I’d love to not care, but I do. It’s like a mini jackpot every time I get fast food.

I bet this is totally normal. Then again, I, uhhh, think I’ve mentioned before that I may have an unhealthy relationship with food, yes?
