“Smokin’ Hot 100” is Back at Heritage Hills – Claremore

Volunteers for Youth invites golfers and duffers alike to participate in their 15th annual “Smokin’ Hot 100” Golf Marathon on Monday, July 22nd, at Claremore’s Heritage Hills Golf Course. Three-person teams are now forming and choosing a past or current golfer for their team name. The threesome then works together to fundraise for Volunteers for Youth’s PAL Program by asking for per-hole pledges from friends, family members, work associates and others within their circle.

The 3-person team that garners the most in pledge support will be awarded a traveling trophy signifying them as the “Smokin’ Hottest Team.”  The top 12 individuals who raise the most in pledge support will also be featured in a 2020 “Smokin’ Hot” calendar.

“This is an incredibly fun event that will raise funds to help us operate our mentoring program. One should not even think about this event as a golf tournament. Golf is just the vehicle that allows us to bring together folks with a heart for the work we’re doing,” said Celina Davis, PAL Project Director.

Money is raised through the golf marathon because golfers and non-golfers alike can participate by self-pledging at $1.00 per hole, seeking matching pledges, and playing 100 holes of golf in the July heat. Several changes in the format of the game are made to speed up the play and make the 100 holes very doable. Since Volunteers for Youth is a 501c3 charitable organization, all pledges are tax deductible.

Besides a lot of swings, a lot of fun, and the satisfaction of helping Volunteers for Youth, participants receive breakfast, lunch, continuous refreshments, plenty of golf balls to smack away, and the opportunity to earn prizes. A shotgun start at daybreak, every golfer in their own cart, and the course closed to others allows the marathon to work. Most of all, the event allows Volunteers for Youth to continue offering one-to-one mentoring for Rogers County public school students through the PAL Program.
