The City of Claremore’s planning department received the 2020 Outstanding Plan Award from the Oklahoma chapter of the American Planning Association for its work on the Claremore 2040 Comprehensive Plan and Special District Plan. The award is given annually to organizations that show a visionary approach or innovative concept to address specific community needs.
“This award is a reflection of the hard work of our planning team to produce something Claremore can be proud of for years to come,” said Kyle Clifton, director of Urban Design and Long Range Planning for the City of Claremore. “Thanks to the invaluable contributions of citizens, Claremore developed and adopted a comprehensive community vision. This plan resulted from a 15-month project led by the planning department to gather community feedback to improve Claremore’s long-term growth and development.”
The Claremore 2040 Comprehensive Plan was created to focus on the City’s physical and economic growth and development. Following a 15-month planning and citizen involvement process, a plan was adopted in June 2019 to focus on four distinct geographies: West Bend | University District, Will Rogers Corridor District, Downtown District, and Historic Route 66 District. “The City of Claremore had a very progressive approach to this planning process and we were very impressed with the public engagement that happened over a 15-month period,” said Chad Denson, president of the Oklahoma Chapter of the American Planning Association.
